Your guide to being an executor

As an executor*, you are responsible for settling an estate according to the deceased’s wishes. With numerous individual tasks to complete and many people and organizations to deal with, including beneficiaries, lawyers, and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), settling an estate is a complicated undertaking — one that can seem overwhelming when you’re grieving the loss of a family member or friend.

We developed this publication as an easy-to-follow reference guide that will help you through the various steps involved in the estate-settling process. We have also developed a kit that includes this guidebook along with:

  • an estate inventory workbook
  • information for beneficiaries
